Why You Might Want an Alternative to Wix

Wix is often the go-to website-builder for quickly creating a custom site without coding. It is now one of the most popular website builders out there.

While Wix is pretty good for beginners, it has some key limitations and problems which can be pretty frustrating in the long run.

SEO Limitations

Wix has a lot of tags or markup strings that it places throughout the code instead of using standardized tags. Additionally, It doesn't allow a lot of technical customization, such as customizing their sitemaps, and neither does it have canonical tags.

Migration is Painful

If you wish to move your website away from Wix at some point in time, it will be quite challenging – especially if you don't want to lose any data or content that has been created while using them. To migrate smoothly, you'll need to get the paid version.

Various Hidden Costs

If you want to store all your videos directly on your Wix website (instead of embedding videos stored elsewhere), your video hours vary depending on your package.

This means if you come with a large image gallery or document repository, you will incur additional costs.

Even though Wix is a great choice for many users, especially those with a limited budget, it's essential to be mindful of the limitations and drawbacks of using Wix before signing up.

Best Wix Alternatives

Whether you've already been using Wix or you just looking for a more comprehensive website builder – you need to explore all  your options. Many other softwares have unique features, extensions, and integrations that will suit YOUR business.

Let's explore the best alternatives to Wix and compare them  in terms of out-of-the-box features, extensions and integrations, and cost.

Squarespace:

Bio/Background:

Squarespace has been getting much attention in the past few years. It's easy-to-use, versatile, and offers an excellent free trial period.

Who is it for:

- If you're a blogger, photographer, artist, or designer, Squarespace will work best for your needs.

Benefits:

Squarespace can prove to be a great alternative to Wix, and here's why:

- Squarespace has award-winning design templates that are fully customizable.

- Squarespace allows you to add multiple design themes to a single website, which is very useful for small businesses.

- Squarespace has an intuitive and thoughtfully designed e-commerce system that makes it easy for you to build your online store. They also have marketing tools like scheduling software, email marketing, social media tools, memberships, and more!

- Don't forget about their drag and drop editor, which makes editing content on your site much easier.

Drawbacks:

Squarespace is a big name in the web development world, but it comes with a few pitfalls:

-One of the biggest issues with Squarespace is that it's not so great at managing your SEO. It's got the basics down, but there are no options for A/B testing and nothing to warn you if there are any errors or issues on your site.

-There are also no options for URL redirects, which is an issue if you're changing URLs (maybe changing .org to a .com).

-Even though Squarespace has a lot of beautiful templates, it can be difficult to customize them. And even though the templates are nice, they aren't compatible with third-party apps, plugins, or extensions.

WordPress

Bio/Background:

For years, WordPress has been the platform of choice for bloggers and publishers worldwide—and with good reason.

Who is it for:

WordPress is most often the go-to option for all the bloggers out there. Both, for the newbies, and the pros.

Benefits:

-WordPress lets you create a website as simple or as complex as you want. You can start out by creating a blog on WordPress.com or installing the open-source software on a web host of your choice.
-Even though Wix is also fairly known for blogging, it comes with about 50 (give or take) blogging templates and a bunch of standard features.
-On the other hand, WordPress provides 3,000+ free blogging themes, a drag-and-drop block editor, and advanced features like content visibility and user roles and permissions.
-Additionally, WordPress lets you optimize your content, speeds up your site, and integrates it with a CRM with WordPress plugins.

Drawback:

WordPress is like a do-it-yourself project: You have to buy your own 'materials' and get your hands dirty with building it from scratch. And since it has so many features (news, blogs, call scheduling etc.) and extensions that you can add on, creating and customizing a WordPress site does take much longer than a Wix site.

Tilda

Bio/Background:

Wix may be an easy website builder, but if you're looking for a tool that lets you do more, Tilda might be worth considering as an alternative. Tilda website builder empowers impressive, easy-to-manage websites, online stores, landing pages, all without the fuss of coding.

Who is it for:

Tilda would be a great choice for anyone looking to build a content-rich website (everyone likes well-presented content, right?).

Benefits:

-Tilda has a simple and intuitive website builder that will make creating websites easier than ever before.

If you want to make the most of your designs, you can use Tilda Blocks to create professional-looking pages without even touching a piece of code!

-With Tilda's advanced block editor, you can easily add animations for your page elements like photos or text blocks. All you have to do is click on a block and select which effect you'd like to use!

-Tilda also offers free 2-week trials with no credit card required so that you can try out their service before making any commitments!

-Tilda gives users access to high-quality images, videos, and text in a fully-customizable gallery. So, if you want more than just basic options, then this might not be the right choice for you.

Drawback:

-Tilda's poor customer support is probably the biggest drawback to using it.

As a newbie, you'll want good customer support for your website, and unfortunately, Tilda's won't be there for you. They're slow to respond, and they're not very helpful when they do get back to you.

-They also have a pretty limited selection of templates—meaning that your website probably won't be as custom and unique as you'd like it to be.

-Even though Tilda has a free plan, it doesn't give you a custom domain name (kind of like Wix).

- And file formats like .pdf and .docx files are fully off-limits!

Zyro

Bio/Background:

When you're creating a new website, you want to make sure it looks good and performs well. Ideally, you want to easily drag and drop the elements wherever you like, edit the content and make it look perfect… even if you have zero coding knowledge.

And that's where Zyro comes to play. With Zyro's user-friendly features, you can create a visually appealing and well-optimized website—whether you're a website newbie or seasoned web developer.

Who is it for:

It is perfect for both beginners and a advanced users due to its easy interface and a large set of tools adn features.

Benefits:

-Zyro is a website-building tool that's easy to use and comes with a bunch of handy AI tools. Zyro's drag-and-drop editor will be easy for you to pick up. The tool has a ton of content blocks you can choose from, so it's super easy to create a beautiful design.

-It also has a lot of customization options and 100+ templates, that allow you to start right away.

Drawback:

-With the Zyro builder, you get what you pay for! That means that you can build a site for cheap—but in some cases, you might have to put up with a couple of bugs along the way.

-If you know how to navigate your way around web design, then this probably won't be an issue for you. But if you're a newbie—or if customer support is something you depend on—then the bugs and slow response time might put a crimp in your style!

-Another thing that might not make Zyro the best choice for some people is that it may not come with many customization options as some other builders do.

GoDaddy Website Builder

Bio/Background:

GoDaddy's Website Builder, earlier known as Websites + Marketing, is an editing and publishing tool to build a responsive website. The best part about Godaddy is how you can set up your website without any technical knowledge.

Who is it for:

If you're looking for a way to start small and grow your website or online store, GoDaddy Website Builder might be just the thing for you. With a variety of templates and a drag-and-drop builder, it's ideal for people who are new to web design.

Benefits:

-Wix is a popular option, but GoDaddy's Website Builder could be the right choice if you're looking for something more powerful (perhaps something that comes with pre-designed templates  and content block features)

-The software has pre-designed templates and content block features, you can effortlessly create a website that looks professional with minimal effort.

-You can add advanced features such as video backgrounds or mobile-friendly designs as needed.

-GoDaddy also makes it super easy to create visual content like logos and other branded content for your website and other channels with their designing app.

-You can also add more features (as per your requirements) like email marketing, social media marketing, Paypal Payment process, and scheduling appointments.

Drawback:

-GoDaddy is great for getting a company up and running fast, but it has its fair share of downsides for search engine optimization.

-For one, there are fewer customization features—you won't find meta tags or sitemaps available in the standard Godaddy package—so if you want to do any preliminary SEO work, you'll need to know your way around code. Now, this is an important one, because meta tags are important for SEO. Meta tags ensure that search engines know what your content is about, so they'll be able to show the website in the relevant results. Meta Tags need to be done manually.

-Another downside is GoDaddy's URL auto-generation feature. Whenever a user changes the page title, GoDaddy will automatically auto-generate the new URL and publish it.

SanityDesk

Bio:

SanityDesk is a marketing platform that gives you access to all of the tools you need. It is an all-in-one platform that makes it easy for you to launch or grow your business online.

Who is it for:

SanityDesk is a good fit for you if you're a small business, a coach, a startup, or a solopreneur. How? Well, because it is not just your everyday website builder, but an all-in-one software. Be it website building, lead generation, email marketing, CRM, or even content- SanityDesk covers it all.

Benefit:

-SanityDesk comes with a comprehensive stack of marketing tools. With SanityDesk, you get access to all of the tools you need in one place: page builder, sales & marketing CRM, quizzes & personalised blocks for pages, email marketing tool, membership area, and task management tool.

-Additionally, SanityDesk also offers project managers ready to help you make the most of our platform. And unlike WordPress or most other website builders, SanityDesk is free. That said, the free version of the platform is only one of its plans. It also comes with a paid version with exclusive features.

Drawback:

-It is new, and a lot of features are still being added with every update. But it is being built from scratch for a particular segment (coaching or small businesses), so the roadmap ahead is very powerful.

-It is limited to the use of small businesses and coaching, not suited for eCommerce or big businesses.

Choosing the Right Website Building Platform for your Business

Ultimately, there's no single right answer to which platform is the best. A solution like Wix is great for those with limited technical skills looking to build a simple website—just drag and drop to fill in your pages, add some images, and then publish. But for more experienced programmers, it doesn't offer much beyond that. And SanityDesk might be ideal for small businesses or coaching businesses that want a high-quality site without any fuss. The trick is finding the platform that makes sense for you and your unique situation: check out those you've heard of, but don't just stop there. Explore a few more options to find the right one for you.
